Holiday house for normally 2-5 Persons, with a living room and two bedrooms, one with a large bed and the other with a large and a small bed (there are also a few collapsable beds), bathroom and kitchen. A dog will be counted like one extra person.
In the rooms there are carpets and curtains. There were already some allergic persons who did not rent the house because of that.
In winter it is not very easy to heat the house. There is an electrical storage heater and electric heaters in the rooms. If you make a fire in the wood stove then the living room gets nice and warm. In summer there is no need for heating, then we rather close the window shutters to avoid the house getting too hot. The near creek brings always some fresh air, and to cool down we jump every now and then into the natural pool at the waterfall.
Depending on the season you can find various fruits in the garden: cherries, figs, peaches, grapes, chestnuts (near the waterfall), nisples, and kakis. There are many palms and their seeds grow like weed. We also try growing vegetables. Last year we were very lucky with beans and pumpkins. Our flowers are mainly roses and camelias.
The holiday house is 5 minutes walking distance from the bus line Bellinzona-Locarno. At the border of the village, in the vine fields, near the waterfall, where some people are taking a bath all year round (search for zapfigbaden). One can drive nearby, but only for unloading. Public parking is about 200 meters away. We prefer guests, who travel with public transport, like ourselves.
Gudo is a totally normal villige of the Ticino region. Allmost no shopping possibilities, but a few friendly restaurants. In the nearby towns Bellinzona and Locarno is more action. There is a good bus connection to go there, even until late in the evening.
No TV. There is however a PC with a few beautiful, old movies. People with a portable computer, can go for a walk through the village or to the playground and should find a few open wireless Internet connections.
For waste we use orange plastic bags that can be bought and that include the taxes. In the village there is a place to recycle PET plastic bottles, glass, metal and batteries. The rests from the kitchen we give to the chicken or we throw them on the compost.
Even if this house is still in the village it is surrounded by nature and you may encounter everything that somebody hiking in the area may encounter: spiders, scorpions (not really dangerous), snakes (mostly not poisonous, exept after havy rains), ants (sometimes they walk into the house), little lizards (they are cute), glow worms (sometimes lots of them), slugs (we hate them), and at night some wild animal might shit on our footpath (in German they call it Losung).
3G Wifi very slow depending on usage.

Es ist ein süsses, kleines, einfaches Häsulein mit einem wunderschönem waaserfall nur ca. 100 meter hinter dem Haus.
wir hatten super ferien.
Nice stay in this quaint house. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Conveniently close to Zurich.
I feld like home, all is clean, people are nice. I extended for one week.
Wonderful people, really kind, sweet and flexible.
Wonderful small & quiet village
Wonderful house, very old and rustic.
I am Srini I am From India, my friends and I came to Swiss and Stayed in that house for three days. It was ok to spend time in country sides. It's very Quite and Peace full place. I think it is a little bit far from town. if you plan to spend your times in Town, you must have to hurry up because of limited bus service. Also if you plan to cook you must have to buy every thing from town, I didn't see any shops near by... Over all its a good place...
Very quiet and lovely place with friendly people. I will suggest it!
We stopped here for a few nights in June whilst visiting our Son who had just moved to Zurich. The house itself is a very old house, with very basic facilities, but it was clean, and everything worked. It met our expectations, and suited our needs. Maur is pretty village with a number of shops and eating places. The lake is only a short stroll from the house. If you are the sort of person who prefers 4 star hotels then this is not for you, but if you don't mind mixed up old furniture, the odd creaking floor board, and if you need an affordable place to rest your head for a few days within range of Zurich you will be happy here ( we were ).
The old house is stripped from luxery, basic XL, but this place doesn't need it!
The beds are good and the vibe is relaxed. The owner (Reinhard) is a very friendly man. We had dinner in a very good Thai takeaway restaurant, just 5 minutes walking from the house. Although Maur isn't an exciting place to be, it is a good place to start your trips to cities in Switserland. We enjoyed Rapperswil and Chur and when we returned to the house in Maur, it was always a pleasure to be there again. We will come back!
Very old farmhouse however the atmosphere was very comforting and a great place to spend a peaceful few nights.
